- Select: for companies that keep their existing booking tools and connect them to Amex GBT's marketplace and servicing. Source

Who it serves, and who owns it
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- The Egencia page describes it as for “digitally-forward companies of all sizes”, from startups to multinational corporations. Source
- Amex GBT's annual report says small and medium-sized companies made up about 46% of its total transaction value in 2025. Source
- Amex GBT says Long Lake has completed its acquisition of the company, that it's now privately held, and that account teams, contracts and service carry on without interruption. Its annual report for 2025 was filed before the sale. Source
Booking
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Egencia is a digital booking platform. Its page says bookings, approvals and analytics are all in the Egencia app, and promotes conversational booking. Source
- The Egencia page gives an average booking time of 2 minutes 45 seconds and a 95% adoption rate, footnoted to Amex GBT's internal reporting for 2024. These are Amex GBT's own figures. Source
- With Amex GBT Select, a company can use the booking tool or tools of its choice alongside Amex GBT's marketplace and servicing. Source
- Amex GBT's annual report says its marketplace combines negotiated air fares and hotel rates with content from aggregators, low-cost carriers, Booking.com and Expedia, including NDC content. Source
- Amex GBT says that for VIP clients, Ovation's corporate travel planners and concierge specialists provide a premium, personalized service. Source
silentVIP
- There's no live self-booking engine. Travelers or assistants send a request, our team sends options within 4 business hours, and the traveler compares and selects them in the portal, with the full price, fare rules and policy status on each option.
- Assistants book for the travelers delegated to them, without shared logins. Our team takes phone and email requests under the same policy.
- The portal works in a phone browser and can be installed on a phone's home screen, with your upcoming trips and the urgent numbers available offline. There's no app-store app.
The difference: Amex GBT offers several ways to book, from self-booking in Egencia to a planner-led service in Ovation. silentVIP has one: a specialist sources every trip, at the cost of waiting for options rather than booking on the spot.
Policy controls and approvals
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Egencia's FAQ says it shows in-policy options first and flags out-of-policy choices for a manager's approval. Source
- Amex GBT's solutions page calls Neo ideal for policy compliance and complex policy management. Source
- The Egencia and Neo pages don't list the rule types or approval levels available. Source
silentVIP
- Rules for cabin by flight length, hotel caps by city, advance booking, preferred suppliers, a maximum trip cost and restricted destinations. Policy groups for standard, senior and executive travelers.
- An out-of-policy choice needs a written justification and goes to the traveler's approver, or a delegate while the approver is away. A change after approval is approved again.
- The same rules apply whether the booking comes through the portal, an assistant or our team. No dynamic, market-based limits.
The difference: Both check policy before anything is booked and send out-of-policy choices for approval. silentVIP publishes its rule types and keeps the justification, the approver's decision and any later change in one approval record. Amex GBT's pages don't list its rule types, so ask to see them in a demo.
Payments and expenses
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Amex GBT offers its own expense management in Neo: receipts photographed and uploaded for approval, automatic categorization, and allowances and reimbursable amounts calculated automatically. Source
- Complete, developed with SAP Concur, puts booking, servicing and expensing in one experience. Source
- Egencia's FAQ says it connects to leading expense platforms through real-time data feeds, and that existing corporate cards can be connected for faster reconciliation. Its page names Concur Expense. Source
silentVIP
- No corporate card and no expense-management product. Bookings are billed to the company, charged to a company card or marked employee-paid. Employee-paid items go to your expense system as a file.
- Invoices per legal entity, with every charge allocated to an entity, department and project when it's booked.
- Refunds are tracked from requested to received, and unused ticket credits are tracked to expiry and applied to new bookings.
The difference: If you want expense management from your travel provider, Amex GBT offers it through Neo and Complete, and Egencia connects to expense platforms. silentVIP covers travel billing only, with entity invoicing on every plan and close tracking of refunds and unused credits.
Integrations
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Egencia offers an open API platform with developer tools, and lists 50+ partner integrations, footnoted to Amex GBT's internal reporting for 2024. Source
- Amex GBT's annual report says Egencia is now fully integrated with its core platform, with single sign-on, expense tracking and data reconciliation. Source
- Select links to a company's existing HR and finance systems. Source
- The annual report says Complete integrates the SAP ecosystem with Amex GBT's marketplace and servicing. Source
silentVIP
- Accounting, expense and HR connections are files: journal files for QuickBooks Online, Xero and NetSuite, a general ledger file, expense files for Expensify and SAP Concur, and an HR roster import. Exports that fail because data is missing show the rows to fix.
- File exports are included on every plan; a custom export format costs $750 once.
- User provisioning from Okta and Microsoft Entra through SCIM, and a read-only connection (MCP) that lets an AI assistant your company already uses, such as Claude, answer questions about your own travel data.
- Sign-in by single-use email link, with two-step sign-in available. Single sign-on with Google or Microsoft is available on request, and an account can require it for everyone.
The difference: Amex GBT connects directly to more systems, including expense platforms through real-time feeds and an open API. silentVIP's accounting, expense and HR connections are files someone downloads or uploads. If you need live accounting or HR syncing, that's a real gap.
Reporting
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Amex GBT's analytics page describes insights on potential savings from avoidable costs and out-of-policy activity, and Peer Travel Insights to benchmark a program against similar ones. Source
- Egencia's FAQ mentions proactive alerts, traveler tracking and dashboards for duty of care. Source
- Ovation's online tools give travel managers dashboards to track compliance and benchmark spend, and track unused tickets for reuse. Source
- Select's reporting covers travel spend and sustainability tracking. Source
silentVIP
- Dashboard of spend by entity, department, project, supplier and traveler, with policy exceptions, outstanding refunds, unused credits and data coverage. Every table downloads as CSV.
- A monthly report with findings, recommended actions, owners and follow-up dates.
- Flight emissions estimated with UK government (DESNZ) factors.
The difference: Amex GBT describes benchmarking against similar travel programs. silentVIP's monthly report is fixed in format, but every finding comes with an action, an owner and a date.
Support
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Egencia's FAQ says travelers get 24/7 help by chat, phone and in-app messaging, with self-service tools, and that premium, high-touch service tiers are available. Source
- Amex GBT's traveler care page offers 24/7 chat assistance and says its tool can rebook travelers' flights automatically. This is Amex GBT's own description. Source
- Its duty of care page says travel managers are notified when a disruption is identified, and can see their travelers' most recent location on a map. Source
- The annual report says AI coaches and knowledge assistants support Amex GBT's travel counselors. Source
- The traveler care page states no response-time target. Source
silentVIP
- Urgent help 24 hours a day, 7 days a week; office hours 8am–8pm ET and 8am–8pm AET, Monday to Friday. After-hours calls cost $45 each on Essentials and are included on Managed and Enterprise.
- Managed and Enterprise clients have a named account manager. Essentials clients are served by a shared team, with a named lead through implementation.
- Published commitments for urgent issues: acknowledgment within 5 minutes and ownership within 15 minutes.
- A named person owns each issue until it's resolved. No AI agent handles client requests.
The difference: Both offer help around the clock: Amex GBT by chat, phone and in-app messaging, silentVIP for urgent issues. Amex GBT says its tool rebooks disrupted flights automatically. silentVIP has a person own every request, with published commitments for urgent issues. On Essentials, after-hours calls are charged; Amex GBT's pages don't say whether any of its support carries a fee, so ask.
Implementation
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- Amex GBT's solutions page describes no onboarding steps, timeline or fee, and asks visitors to request a demo. Its product pages say solution availability may vary by location. Source
- For Neo, the annual report says clients work with Amex GBT to design and build their travel and expense program. Source
- Select integrates a company's preferred tools and systems with Amex GBT's technology. Source
silentVIP
- 4 to 6 weeks, in eight stages with a named owner and your responsibilities at each stage.
- Implementation is included for up to 500 travelers, with a fixed $3,500 fee above that.
- Existing bookings, unused tickets and open refunds move over on a tracked list.
The difference: silentVIP publishes its timeline and its implementation fee. Amex GBT's pages don't, so ask for both in writing, with who does what during setup.
Total cost
Amex GBT
Each statement links to Amex GBT's own page or annual report, checked Oct 22, 2026.
- The pricing page names four pricing models (flat fee, pay as you book, subscription and custom terms) and gives no amounts. Source
- Amex GBT says clients can secure up to 20% off top air routes and 25% off best available hotel rates, footnoted to Amex GBT's internal reporting for 2024. It doesn't say what the savings are measured against. This is Amex GBT's own claim. Source
- Egencia's FAQ says benchmarked savings figures are “available on request”. Source
- Amex GBT's annual report says it typically charges clients transaction fees for arranging travel, and that travel suppliers pay it for distributing and promoting their content, usually a volume-linked fee, including fees from the three major GDSs. Source
- The same report lists management fees, paid by clients for a dedicated staffing pool to serve their travelers, and subscription fees for travel management tools, and says some client contracts include volume floors. Source
- Its revenue recognition policy describes incentives from air travel suppliers for flown incremental bookings above minimum targeted thresholds. Source
silentVIP
- Essentials: $8 per active traveler a month, $22 per flight booking and $12 per hotel or rail booking, with a $600 monthly minimum. Changes cost $15 each.
- Managed: $14 per active traveler a month, $30 per flight booking and $15 per hotel or rail booking, with a $2,000 monthly minimum. Changes are included.
- We take no commissions from airlines or hotels; you pay the fees on our pricing page, and any hotel-program fee paid to us is shown on your invoice (how we're paid).
The difference: silentVIP's fees are published and flat. Amex GBT names its pricing models but not the amounts, and its annual report says travel suppliers pay it too. Which comes to less depends on the quote you get, so compare it with ours on your own volumes.
Comparing a quote
Why there's no worked example
On our Perk comparison we price the same month on both models. We can't do that here: Amex GBT's pricing page, checked Oct 22, 2026, names its pricing models but gives no amounts, and we won't guess them.
Price your own month with us
The plan finder suggests a plan for your volumes and shows a typical month's fees with the arithmetic. Our fees are all on the pricing page.
Set an Amex GBT quote beside ours
Once you have a quote, enter its fee per booking and its fixed monthly fees as your current arrangement in the cost tool on our pricing page. It sets a year of those fees against ours for the same trips.
Read any quote with care
- Fees only. Fares and room rates come on top with any provider; compare them on the same itinerary.
- The services differ. Amex GBT offers self-booking tools with agents behind them, and a planner-led service; with silentVIP, our team sources each trip. Set the fees against what each one does for you.
- A savings claim needs a baseline. Ask what any figure is measured against, and over which trips.
Before you choose
Questions to ask Amex GBT, or us
Our suggestions. The same questions work for any travel provider.
Fees and supplier income
- Which of your four pricing models would you propose for our volumes, and what is every fee under it, including changes, agent-assisted bookings and after-hours help?
- Is there a minimum or a volume floor, and an implementation fee?
- Do our bookings count toward any supplier incentive, and who keeps it?
- What is your savings figure measured against?
Service
- Which of your products would we be on, and why that one?
- Who answers when a trip goes wrong at night, and is the response time in the contract?
- Do we get a named account manager?
- Who keeps track of unused ticket credits and refunds, and how are they reported to finance?
